Joanna - My only suggestion regarding color is to follow some of the basic guidelines around use of color that help make web sites accessible to people with disabilities. That way people who are color blind and those with low vision can benefit from all the wisdom and support you offer on your site. You can do a search on WCAG (web content accessibility guidelines) to find the guidelines.
