Dear Shh, I agree with what you say about making judgments. The issue often is that we often don't know we are making judgements. We are just saying what we think about a situation or problem and offering a solution. And then we are surprised or even mortified or angry when the person involved bristles at being judged. Combine that with difficulty in staying present and tolerating feelings, a basic component of an eating disorder mental frame work, we can spurt out what we think are thoughtful and helpful words without sitting with them first. So an awareness of "I statements" helps keep us slow down the momentum of our actions and reminds us to go inside ourselves to consider our experience rather than plunge into the real or imagined experience of someone else. "I statements" can be very helpful in the recovery process as well as supporting relationships.
