Drop Your Veil and Let Your Light Shine

Drop your veil, and let your light shine.

Often when women are at the beginning of eating disorder recovery they have years, maybe a lifetime, of dimming their light so that their gifts don't cause another person to feel diminished.

This way of behaving and living becomes ingrained as sacrifice for love. A woman can come to believe the loving thing to do is to protect the other from knowledge of her'competence or creativity, or brilliance or artistry or brain power or........n. The person dimming her light may continue the practice until she is lonely, exploited, tired, sad, frustrated without knowing why and.... eventually, in the dark.

Hey, if they can't stand the light, let them develop a tolerance for it with practice. Or let them get inspired to develop their own light. Or let them move to the shade while you pursue what you can see in the light.

Be brave, and drop your veil. Your recovery depends on it.

Hi Joanna

Well I just typed a response to this and it disappeared so you may receive twice !

I havent been on the site for a while, however it always amazes me when I check back how there is always something relevant for me at this time!

This article is exactly where I am at right now. Amazing!

After a a few challenges I wondered what was going on and why I found these challenges so difficult to complete , then just the other day I came across the word "Exposure" staring right at me !!

Hi Jan,

Your timing is exquisite.  I'm participating in a four day women's retreat in Encinitas by the ocean called, "Lifting the Veil."

We are a group of remarkable women, teachers and guides, change makers and authors all, doing ceremonies, stories and sharings with a lot of joy and learning as we recognize and lift our veils.

First part might feel like exposure.  But then, the wonder that you truly are is revealed - to others and yourself.   :-)

Carry on carrying on, Jan.  And thank you for writing.
