Forum Message re Hope or Acceptance

Share
An important discussion is going on in the forum of this site about the difference between hope and acceptance. Since forum access is closed until Thursday, I offer this to my readers now in blog form. (You can find the discussion by going to the forum and clicking on "old forum."

I said to my soul, be still
and wait without hope,
for hope would be hope for the wrong thing

wait without love,
for love would be love of the wrong thing

there is yet faith,
but the faith and the love are all in the waiting.

Wait without thought,
for you are not ready for thought

So the darkness shall be the light,
and the stillness the dancing.

--T. S. Eliot    from  East Coker in The Four Quartets

This is an ongoing meditation and anchoring place for when you are reaching and stretching and growing toward more recovery and healing without awareness to help you know where you are and where you are going.

This poem describes where you are and and is your guide. Let your own darkness be your light. Learn to rest and dance in your own stillness.

The rest will come. :)

When I'm in pain or distress I hear this poem as a wise support.

Tonight, feeling good about myself and my life, I read this poem and hear an enormous wise serenity message. My image was of a fetus in the womb or a seed in the earth.

Living and being before awareness and before birth is a rich no name time where the darkness is the light and the stillness is the dancing.

I remember reading this before in an earlier blog (or maybe your book), but at the time I really didn't get it. It kind of confused me but I think at the time I was desperately looking for the "solution" to my ED. Now that I've come this far, I get this poem! To me it says it in the releasing of the control over your recovery and trusting either your higher power, or the recovery process (which ever fits your beliefs.....or your feelings at the moment) that you will find your light. I love where I'm at in my recovery right now, but did it go like I planned? NOT AT ALL!! But now I know that those moments when things didn't go as I planned and I felt in my darkest, I was actually heading in the right direction. It was in the journey that my "solutions" layed not in some external instruction or action. Giving up the control and letting recovery/life/love/etc come to us in it's own time can be very hard, but it's so much easier when you learn to do it!

i printed this poem out and put it on my desk at work. I have missed this forum so much while it was developing into this WONDERFUL new site. Still trying to navigate it, get used to it, etc., It is obvious the hard work and dedication that have gone into it. Thank you, Joanna, for providing us with an updated version of your forum. Glad you are back! I missed all of you !!

This poem was very helpful while I was waiting for the new site. It makes me feel hopeful that "knowing" is just around the corner and reminds me sometimes I don't have to do anything.

Joanna - I've been cruising around the new site and ran into one bump. When I view it on my phone (Windows Phone 7) I can't log in. The site is rendering on my phone so when I touch the login icon it brings up the FAQ instead of the pop up box for username and password. Can you check with your computer guru on this please. It would be a major bummer to not be able to post from my phone! Thank you.
